Alprazolam 2MG Pfizer Xanax, sold under the trade name Xanax among others, is a short-acting benzodiazepine. It is most commonly used in short term management of anxiety disorders, specifically panic disorder or generalized anxiety disorder. Other uses include chemotherapy-induced nausea, together with other treatments.

Alprazolam is used to treat anxiety and panic disorders. It belongs to a class of medications called benzodiazepines which act on the brain and nerves (central nervous system) to produce a calming effect. It works by enhancing the effects of a certain natural chemical in the body (GABA).

Pfizer manufactures Xanax, an antianxiety medication also known as alprazolam, but its patent has expired. That means the vast majority of the medication is made and sold by other companies and available in a generic form

Xanax XR, an extended-release form for panic disorder (with or without agoraphobia) orally-disintegrating tablets (generic only; the brand name product Niravam has been discontinued)

The highest strength dose of Xanax is a 3-mg extended-release tablet. That pill is triangular — not bar-shaped — and green.
